Fake caller ID, deceptive landline call: How Pune realty firm lost Rs 49 lakh in whale phishing attack

IN THE fourth reported incident of ‘whale phishing’ attack on a real estate company in Pune over the last eight months, a prominent realty firm in the city was swindled of Rs 49 lakh by online frauds who posed as its CEO and manipulated the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the firm into making large transfers to fraudulent accounts.

An FIR has been registered at cyber police station by the CFO of the prominent realty firm. According to the complaint, in the first week of July, the CFO received a missed call from an unidentified number and immediately after that a message from the same number.
