How Apple took Google’s help in bringing AI features to iPhones

Apple has released first developer betas of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 – providing a peek into how artificial intelligence, or rather Apple Intelligence, features to its devices. The iPhones maker also published a technical paper that provides details of the models that it developed, including that it relied on chips designed by Google rather than industry leader Nvidia.
According to the paper, Apple used Google’s AI chips to build two key components (or Apple foundation models) of its AI software infrastructure by using two different clusters of Google’s tensor processing unit (TPU).
