‘Samsung worried about low share in wearables segment, looks at options to improve’

PARIS: Samsung is concerned about its low market share in the price-sensitive wearable business in markets including India and plans to address it by bringing low cost fitness bands with limited capabilities and working with both the government and digital organisations to offer wearables as a service, a top company executive said.

“…What we have understood is that there are government subsidies or other things as you are accelerating your digital revolution and digitizing health records, we are working now to see how we can be part of that, to lower the costs, and provide a service rather than trying to sell a device,” Hon Pak, head of the digital health team (mobile experience business) at Samsung Electronics, told ET.
