Mobile number portability (MNP) requests crossed the 1 billion mark since its inception on July 6, the telecom regulatory authority of India said. MNP was introduced in India on January 20, 2011.
MNP allows a telecom subscriber to retain his mobile number when switching from one service provider to another, anywhere in the country. It is also a metric to measure churn of subscribers between telecom operators.
