‘Drugs in parcel’ fraud: Threatened with 20-yr jail term, Pune woman loses Rs 20 Lakh
“YOU WILL face 20 years in prison and all your assets will be seized.” A 40-year-old Pune woman was told by a cyber criminal posing as a Mumbai police officer, who said that LSD strips had been found in a parcel sent by her to Iran. Using the information she innocently shared out of fear, the conmen took an instant loan of Rs 20 lakh in her name and siphoned off the funds immediately.
An FIR in the case was registered at Warje Malwadi police station by the complainant who works for a talent acquisition firm in Pune. In the first week of this month, she received a call from a man posing as an executive of a courier company.
