US retailer Target to deploy GenAI chatbot across stores to assist staff

US retailer Target on Thursday announced plans to roll out Store Companion, a generative artificial intelligence (GenAI)-powered chatbot across its 2,000 outlets to assist employees in store operations.

Trained on the large language model (LLM) ChatGPT 4o, Store Companion will answer on-the-job process questions, train new employees and help in operations management. It will be available as an app on the Target stores’ handheld devices, where employees can input queries and receive answers and instructions.
