Centre eyes multiple ways for age-gating, seeks views

The government is leaning towards allowing social media companies and other internet intermediaries to develop their own ways to restrict content by age and obtain verifiable parental consent, as required under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, according to sources.

The solutions developed by the internet companies could be allowed to be deployed in addition to those prescribed by the government, to ensure “business continuity”, a senior government official told ET.
