Google’s ambitious dive into artificial intelligence (AI) appears to be coming at a significant environmental cost. The search giant’s greenhouse gas emissions have increased significantly over the past five years, largely due to the energy demands of artificial intelligence (AI). According to Google’s 2024 Environmental Report, the company’s carbon emissions rose by 48% since 2019 and 13% in the last year alone.
