Disinformation has ‘polarised people’, legal framework to promote media literacy must: Justice KV Viswanathan

Supreme Court judge Justice K V Viswanathan said on Wednesday disinformation has emerged as the “most severe risk” and it can seriously impact the rule of law and place the State and its legal system in a conundrum.

Speaking at the Justice T S Krishnamoorthy Iyer Memorial Oration at Kerala High Court on “Emerging Areas that Impact Law and the Legal System,” he said: “We stand at the critical juncture of the digital age marked by an explosion of information and the emergence of non-traditional sources of information like X, Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube, all of which are capable of transmitting information at a breakneck speed.
