BMC doctor loses 17 lakh in cyber fraud, case lodged

Police registered a case Tuesday after a doctor affiliated to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) lost Rs 17 lakh to cyber fraudsters who lured her by promising money upon completion of “online tasks”. In the “task fraud”, fraudsters ask victims to give positive reviews to hotels online and earn money in exchange.

As per the FIR, the 40-year-old complaint, who resides in Navi Mumbai, received a message in May on the Telegram app from a woman who identified herself as Sahara Kalyani.
