Orange finalises merger in Romania

Orange completed the merger of Orange Romania S.A (ORO) and fixed provider Orange Romania Communications S.A (OROC), a move to create a fixed-mobile convergent player and remain competitive.

In a statement, Orange detailed that ORO will absorb OROC and the merged entity will begin as a fully converged telecoms company from tomorrow (June 1).

Orange Group will hold 80% of shares in the company and the voting rights, and 20% will be held by the Romanian government’s Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalisation.

ORO acquired 54% of shares in fixed provider Telekom Romania Communications in 2021 and rebranded Orange Romania Communications.

No major changes will occur during the merger, Orange stated the tie-up will “remove barriers to full operational integration”, and combine customer databases and IT systems to deliver unified experiences for customers.

“This merger enables Orange Romania to fully implement its strategy to deliver best-in class offers on mobile and fibre,” said Orange Europe EVP and CEO, Mari-Noelle Jego-Laveissiere.
