China Telecom and ZTE complete industry’s first Cluster DRS trial for low-altitude economy demonstration zone in China’s Shaoxing

ZTE Corporation, a global leading provider of integrated information and communication technology solutions, has collaborated with China Telecom’s Zhejiang Branch, China Telecom Research Institute, and Shaoxing Public Security Bureau, to complete the industry’s first trial of Cluster DRS (Dynamic Radio Sharing) solution within the low-altitude economy demonstration zones of Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. This milestone signifies a pivotal step towards the commercialization of the Cluster DRS solution for the burgeoning low-altitude economy.

In the Shangyu Distric of Shaoxing, China Telecom’s Zhejiang branch has deployed a high-quality 5G commercial network operating at 3.5GHz across a 100-square-kilometer area. This network supports the growth of the low-altitude economy by providing an advanced information infrastructure. Designating this area as a demonstration zone, the Zhejiang Branch aims to extend 5G coverage from the ground to the air. The Cluster DRS solution dynamically establishes a base station cluster centered around drones, leveraging their flight trajectories and service demands. This innovative approach ensures stable 4K video transmission for drones through flexible spatial beam sharing schemes.

During the “Oxygen Music Festival” held on May 1st, the Shaoxing Public Security Bureau employed drones for security inspections. The integration of Cluster DRS ensured stable 4K ultra-high-definition video transmission, leading to a notable reduction in drone handovers by 40%-50% and a commendable increase in the uplink rate by approximately 30%.

At MWC Barcelona 2024, ZTE and China Telecom unveiled their groundbreaking 5G-A Cluster DRS solutions. China Telecom’s Zhejiang Branch has launched this cutting-edge technology on its commercial network.

With a commitment to continually enhancing end-to-end service provisioning capabilities in the low-altitude domain, China Telecom’s Zhejiang Branch and ZTE will collaborate further to advance 5G-A features and solutions in low-altitude economy demonstration zones. This joint effort aims to expedite the growth of the low-altitude economy.
