Airtel winner in 4 of 5 metrics in fixed broadband services, Jio most consistent: OpenSignal
Bharti Airtel, India’s no. 2 telco, has emerged as a leader in four out of five metrics measuring the service quality of telecom operators’ fixed broadband services, according to an OpenSignal report. Reliance Jio though emerged as a top performer in broadband consistent quality.
According to analysis by OpenSignal, Airtel has topped the charts in broadband video experience, upload speed at 33.3 Mbps, compared with Reliance Jio’s 26.8 Mbps, download speed at 44.1 Mbps as against Jio’s 33.8 Mbps and peak download speed of 213.6 Mbps with Jio’s at 155.3 Mbps.
Telecom market leader Jio emerged as a top performer in broadband consistent quality with 71.6% test results meeting minimum performance thresholds to watch HD video, complete group video conference calls and play games, OpenSignal said in its report released Thursday. Jio beat Airtel by 3.2% in the Broadband Consistent Quality metric.
BSNL remained at the third position across all metrics.
Across seven major cities – Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata – five key fixed broadband service providers were identified including Jio, Airtel, Hathway, Excitel, and Alliance.
“Airtel leads in Ahmedabad and Mumbai for speed while Hathway dominates in Bengaluru and shares Chennai’s top spot with ACT,” the report said. “Excitel stands out in Delhi and Hyderabad for both download and upload speeds.”
