Snapdragon X Elite: Qualcomm humbles Intel with scary fast Oryon Arm based chip for PC

Qualcomm at its Snapdragon Summit took the wraps off from Snapdragon X Elite platform- the most powerful computing processor it has ever created for the PC. This cutting-edge processor, including the newly announced Qualcomm Oryon, is built using a 4nm manufacturing process and boasts 136GB/s of memory bandwidth. These PCs are expected to ship in mid-2024.

Qualcomm claims that its Snapdragon X Elite will outshine multiple Intel Core i7 processors when measured on the Geekbench 6 benchmark, which assesses multi-threaded performance. The company, to support its claim, has also shared a chart to denote the Snapdragon X Elite’s capabilities and one chart demonstrating the X Elite chip surpassing AMD’s Ryzen 9 7940HS in GPU benchmarks.

“Snapdragon X Elite represents a dramatic leap in innovation for computing as we deliver our new, custom Qualcomm Oryon CPU for super-charged performance that will delight consumers with incredible power efficiency and take their creativity and productivity to the next level,” said Kedar Kondap, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Compute & Gaming, Qualcomm Technologies.

Snapdragon X Elite features a Qualcomm AI Engine with an integrated Qualcomm Hexagon NPU to handle AI workloads. Snapdragon X Elite is capable of running generative AI LLM models over 13B parameters on-device with blazing-fast speeds. It also includes the updated dual Micro NPU inside the ultra-low-power Qualcomm.

Qualcomm has also unveiled Snapdragon Seamless- “a cross-platform technology that enables Android, Windows and Snapdragon devices using other operating systems to discover each other and share information to work as one integrated system.”

This innovative integration allows device manufacturers and OS partners to enhance and extend their multi-device experiences for consumers. It makes devices like phones, computers, and even wearables work together better. Qualcomm says that it’s now in some of their newest chips for phones and computers, and it will come to other devices like virtual reality and cars in the future. Big companies like Microsoft, Android, Xiaomi, ASUS, Honor, Lenovo, and OPPO are teaming up with Qualcomm to make this happen.
