Vodafone Idea launches self-KYC for prepaid, postpaid customers
Vodafone Idea Tuesday claimed an industry-first with the launch of self-KYC (know your customer) process, which it said will make prepaid and postpaid customer onboarding easier as customers will no longer need to visit the retail store and go through the physical KYC process.
“Vi’s Self KYC system is based on DoT (Department of Telecommunications)-mandated guidelines and enables customers to access a new connection anytime from anywhere with the added advantage of SIM delivery at the doorstep,” the telco said in a statement.
Initially, the Vi Self-KYC service has been rolled out for all postpaid customers in Kolkata and Karnataka and will be gradually rolled out on a pan-India level.
Users of Vi Self-KYC can, from the comfort of their home, order a new SIM online, select their desired plan, and do self-KYC to receive the SIM at home.
“Our Self-KYC solution is a Digital India initiative – one of many firsts that Vi has been bringing to simplify, enhance and enliven the lives of our valued customers. I am sure that users will now find a significant improvement in the ease of completing KYC process through our platform,” said Abhijit Kishore, COO, Vodafone Idea Limited.
The telecom department, as part of the telecom reforms unveiled in September 2021, has focused on contactless, customer-centric, and secured KYC processes through Aadhaar-based KYC, as well as self-KYC.
In self-KYC, the issuing of mobile connection to the customers is done through app/portal-based online process wherein a customer can apply for a mobile connection from home/office and gets the SIM delivered at their doorstep using documents electronically verified by UIDAI or DigiLocker.
