MeitY issues new draft rules on content moderation

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), on June 6, issued a fresh draft of the amendment to the IT Rules 2021. Earlier, on June 2, ministry published the same draft but pulled out within hours.

The amendments aimed to provide additional avenues for grievance redressal apart from courts and also to ensure that the constitutional rights of Indian citizens are not contravened by any big-tech platform by ensuring new accountability standards for Significant Social Media Intermediaries (SSMIs).
