Telecom minister asks industry to study global best practices on spectrum management

Communications minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urged industry leaders to study the best global practices on spectrum management in the ‘closely related’ yet complex space and telecom sectors and to come up with benchmarks which India could adopt as it formulates policy in this area.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Indian Space Association (ISPA), Vaishnaw said, “With launching of the Indian Space Association, new opportunities will open up for industry, for research organizations, from academia for startups, for manufacturers, for service organizations like railways and other government organizations.”

Elaborating on the Prime Minister’s philosophy of Antyodaya; inclusive development, development of the last person in the society, development of the marginalized sections, Vaishnaw said, “ I hope that the space and telecom combined, will contribute a big way in achieving the Antyodaya mission.”

Vaishnaw said, It was very obvious that space and telecom combined could help us reach areas conventionally not reachable. “For example, the forested areas, the tribal areas which are in very remote places, the Northeast, parts of our country, the Himalayan sections, the desert areas,” he explained as some of the areas where conventional methods could not take digital services.

He also urged the industry to come up with solutions in consultation with the department of space to increase the efficiency in Railways. Vaishnaw is also the minister for railways
